Thursday’s a Great Day to play Hookie from work! Why? Heh! Why not!

Check out this boozy Torch song by the late Harry Nilsson entitled “Thursday (Here’s Why I Did Not Go To Work Today). For those unaware, Harry Nilsson was John Lennon’s favorite L.A. drinking buddy during his famous short-lived split from Yoko Ono in 1973 – 74. It was an 18-month bender that only ended when Paul (yes, that Paul) flew to Los Angeles at Yoko’s behest to ask him to come home, which he did.

The most famous song Nilsson ever recorded was, “Everybody’s Talkin’ at Me.” It was featured in the 1969 Academy Award winning film, Midnight Cowboy. Ironically, for a man who was voted #62 on Rolling Stone’s list of The 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time, he did not write the song. It was written by a man named Fred Neil in 1966.

Check out the photo that accompanies the YouTube video. Harry Nilsson is pictured shooting pool with another man watching. There’s no mention of who the other man, but I think it’s John Lennon.

What do you think?
